Local search algorithms for a single-machine scheduling problem with positive and negative time-lags

چکیده
Positive and negative time-lags are general timing restrictions between the starting times of jobs which have been introduced in connection with the Metra Potential Method. Although very powerful, these relations have been considered only seldom in the literature since already for a single machine problem with positive and negative time-lags the problem of finding a feasible solution is NP-complete. In this paper a local search approach for a single-machine scheduling problem with positive and negative time-lags and the objective to minimize the makespan is presented. Since the existence of a feasible initial solution for starting the search cannot be guaranteed, infeasible solutions are incorporated into the search process. Computational results based on instances resulting from shop problems are reported.

GENETIC AND TABU SEARCH ALGORITHMS FOR THE SINGLE MACHINE SCHEDULING PROBLEM WITH SEQUENCE-DEPENDENT SET-UP TIMES AND DETERIORATING JOBS
This paper introduces the effects of job deterioration and sequence dependent set- up time in a single machine scheduling problem. The considered optimization criterion is the minimization of the makespan (Cmax). For this purpose, after formulating the mathematical model, genetic and tabu search algorithms were developed for the problem. Since population diversity is a very important issue in ...
متن کاملOptimality of the flexible job shop scheduling system based on Gravitational Search Algorithm
The Flexible Job Shop Scheduling Problem (FJSP) is one of the most general and difficult of all traditional scheduling problems. The Flexible Job Shop Problem (FJSP) is an extension of the classical job shop scheduling problem which allows an operation to be processed by any machine from a given set. The problem is to assign each operation to a machine and to order the operations on the machine...

متن کاملMinimizing Total Weighted Tardiness with Drop Dead Dates in Single Machine Scheduling Problem
This paper deals with minimization of tardiness in single machine scheduling problem when each job has two different due-dates i.e. ordinary due-date and drop dead date. The drop dead date is the date in which jobs’ weights rise sharply or the customer cancels the order. A linear programming formulation is developed for the problem and since the problem is known to be NP-hard, three heuristic...
متن کاملEfficient Algorithms for Just-In-Time Scheduling on a Batch Processing Machine
Just-in-time scheduling problem on a single batch processing machine is investigated in this research. Batch processing machines can process more than one job simultaneously and are widely used in semi-conductor industries. Due to the requirements of just-in-time strategy, minimization of total earliness and tardiness penalties is considered as the criterion. It is an acceptable criterion for b...
